#106 - Lee

Lee is located in the Berkshire Mountains.  Lee's first marble quarry was established in 1852 and was famous for its quality.  Buildings constructed of Lee marble include a wing of the US Capitol, 250 sculptures on Philadelphia's City Hall, General Grant's Tomb and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.  The town's early prosperity is evident in some of the ornate buildings in its downtown area.

Back in my pre-teaching days I stayed at the Chambery Inn in Lee, which is a bed and breakfast a former schoolhouse.  The rooms had blackboards and really high ceilings!  I hope it makes it through COVID.
