#112 - Franklin

Walking in downtown Franklin yielded some interesting surprises.  It is the first town in the United States named after Benjamin Franklin when it was founded in 1778.  Citizens thought Franklin himself might donate a bell for their church steeple, but instead he gave them 116 books.  Residents decided to lend them books to residents of Franklin for free.  This lead to the creation of "the nation's first public library."

Across the street from the Franklin Public Library is the campus of Dean College.  We love our college campus walks.  Dean is a small college but the very large red brick building is an impressive center to the campus and Franklin itself.
