#114 - Arlington

In 1635 colonists settled Arlington and it was originally called Menotomy  (as part of a village within Cambridge).   Later in 1867 it was renamed Arlington as an honor to Arlington National Cemetery.

Our walk started at the bottom of Menotomy Rocks (where Colonists ambushed the British on their retreat from Concord).  After hiking up through the park, we continued uphill to the water tower in the Arlington Heights Neighborhood.  The architectural style is said to have been modeled after the Samothrace temple complex in Greece.

On the way back down, we walked through Robbins Farm Park which has wide open spaces and views of Boston.  And a large dog sculpture!
