#126 - Douglas and #125 - Gardner

   

Douglas State Forest in Douglas was our destination for walk #126.  This park has terrific hiking trails, and it's the origination of both the Midstate Trail in Mass, as well as the Southern New England Trunk Trail.  We decided to do the Coffee House Trail Loop, with a diversion along the Cedar Swamp Trail.  In the summer this park has a nice beach on the lake.

 We ventured to Gardner for walk #125.  Known as the Chair City, it has a long history of furniture manufacturing.  In 1910, it had 20 factories producing 4 million chairs a year!  Now it's a bit of a shell of its former prosperous self, but it does have a huge chair/sculpture as a tribute.
