#195 - #197 Dighton, Berkley and Lakeville

In Dighton (#195) we took a peaceful walk to the Taunton River through Sweets Knoll State Park. Here we saw stands of these Autumn Olive bushes (invasive species, edible fruit). We also walked north from here to Bristol County Agricultural High School.
We then went to Berkley(#196) which is located along the other side of the Taunton River. Dighton Rock State Park (interesting that it's not in Dighton, but in Berkley) sits along this tidal river. It houses Dighton Rock in a small enclosed “museum” (closed during our visit). The Rock is a glacial erratic with mysterious petroglyphs on it. Wish we had seen it!
In Lakeville (#197) The Royal Wampanoag Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits on the banks of Little Quittacas Pond. There are 20 gravesites, some of whom are direct descendants of the great Wampanoag Sachem, Massasoit. Massasoit allied with the Pilgrims and saved them from starvation in their first years.
