Andover (#217), Stow (#218) and Sherborn (#219)

Andover (#217) - We love a good walk around a campus. In this case, Phillips Andover Academy in Andover was a homerun. With an endowment of $1.3 Billion, this elite high school is nicer than most of the college campuses we have seen. Of course having 2 former presidents (both Bushes), JFK Jr, Oliver Wendall Holmes, Frederick Law Olmstead and Bill Belichik as alums helps as well.
Stow (#218) is known for its 6 apple chards and 4 golf courses. The modern butternut squash was invented here in 1944 (one of the courses is named after that accomplishment). We walked in Stow Acres Country Club where we stopped on hole 2 for the sand trap shot. The course hosted the US Amateur Public Links Championship in 1995 and has been ranked one of the 50 best public courses in the country.
# 219 Sherborn is significant if you have been following our walks. Many of our spots have been Trustees of Reservations properties and this was their first. It started as a gift of 21 acres from Frederick Law Olmsted. It’s also known as the “Gates of the Charles” River and has a canoe stop where we took a few pics.
