Big Day - Norton, Rehoboth, Westwood, Holbrook, Abington, Whitman (#257 - 262)
Norton (#262) - Duchess & Roscoe are ready for school. We stopped at Wheaton College to walk the grounds and ✅ off Norton. This is a beautiful small campus and is highly regarded, nationally, as a strong liberal arts institution. Loved walking this campus!
Rehoboth (#261) claims to be the first town in the country to be the birthplace of public education, as their town offered school to all children, not only those who were wealthy, when the town was incorporated in 1645. This is the Hornbine School, used in the 1800s. It still has a working outhouse.
Westwood (#257) - The return of Roscoe (a furloughed NEADS dog who we helped raise) brought us to the Hale Education recreation area, where we hiked some trails. Ended at the southern tip of Noannet Pond, where there is a members only beach.
Abington (#259) - We picnicked and took a nice walk through Ames Nowell State Park, in Abington. Located around Cleveland Pond, the day use park supports boating, fishing, and hiking activities. Nice state park!
When we walked in Whitman (#260) we learned that this is where the Ruth Wakefield created the Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie in the 1930’s. The Toll House Inn has been torn down to make way for a Burger King parking lot, but the sign remains.
Holbrook (#258) - Hiked in Holbrook Town Forest. Trails were very rocky and narrow (not our favorite type). The drought of 2022 is real. What was most evident is the early leaf drop. Probably a month before they would typically fall.
