Final Catch Up Posts #91-95 Brockton, The Bridgewater Towns, Millbury

Brockton - Rocky Marciano, the late, great, undefeated heavyweight champion of the world (49-0) hailed from Brockton. His statue, at the north end of the football stadium, is the tallest statue of a person in North America. Marvelous Marvin Hagler, middleweight champion of the ‘80s was also a Brockton native. The mascot of Brockton High, one of the largest high schools in the US (4,200 students), is cleverly named “The Boxers.”
Bridgewater - Moving statue on the campus of Bridgewater State University, commemorating Martin Richard, the youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombing. His parents are alumni. Martin’s message is simple and powerful....”No more hurting people. Peace ☮️ “
East Bridgewater - In 1649, Sachem Rock was the location of the first sale of land by Native Americans to white settlers. Wampanoag Chief Massasoit met Miles Standish at the glacial rock and sold 14 square miles of land for 7 coats, 9 hatchets, 20 knives, 8 hoes, 4 moose skins and 10 yards of cotton.
West Bridgewater - Founded in 1651, West Bridgewater is a fairly typical bedroom community. We walked the Rail Trail, which is literally a straight line ➖. The guy who wrote the Seinfeld “Soup Nazi” episode is from this town.
Millbury - Shout out to one of our favorite local restaurants - Puffins. Amazing omelettes, right on 122A in Millbury. We walked from the restaurant into town and back then enjoyed breakfast!
